We already brought you part one of our list of 15 things you probably did not know about Boyz II Men, and now we’re back with part two! Check out eight more fascinating facts about the singers and musicians that you definitely (probably) did not know below. You might be surprised by what you find out!
Number Eight: They Had Cute Nicknames for Each Other. In the liner notes of their first album, Cooleyhighharmoney, there are nicknames specified for each of the four members. Wanya was “Squirt,” Michael was “Bass,” Shawn was “Slim,” and Nathan was “Alex Vanderpool.” Alex Vanderpool was a nerdy soap opera character at the time.
Number Seven: They Opened for MC Hammer. In 1992, as part of MC Hammer’s 2 Legit 2 Quit tour, Boyz II Men was his opening act!
Number Six: They Left Motown After a Dispute. When Motown released The Remix Collection, Boyz II Men became incensed because they did not want the album released. They though the compilation did not represent their work at their best, and so they felt they could not longer trust Motown. As a result, they left to begin their own recording company, and their records were then distributed by Epic Records instead of Motown.
Number Five: They Disbanded Because of Scoliosis. Well, that’s a simplified version of what actually happened. In reality, the quartet became a trio when McCary retired due to his scoliosis, which was beginning to take a toll on him. After McCary retired, their contract was terminated, and the remaining three Boyz took a temporary hiatus.
Number Four: They Have a Fan Base in Japan. In fact, Boyz II Men release their album, titled The Remedy, exclusively in Japan because their fan base there is so large. The album was later released online the following year.
Number Three: They Went on a Love Cruise. And it’s exactly what it sounds like. In 2011, Boyz II Men headlined a cruise to celebrate both their 20th anniversary and Valentine’s Day.
Number Two: They Were in an Episode of HIMYM. Boyz II Men was in an episode of How I Met Your Mother titled “Slapsgiving 3: Slappointment in Slapmarra,” and they performed a version of the show’s song, titled “You Just Got Slapped.”
Number One: They Have a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Boyz earned their star in 2012, and we will go out on a limb and say that they definitely deserved it.
