Brandy Clark Scores Nineteen Songs for Musical

Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally scored nineteen songs for The Moonshine: That Hee Haw Musical. The musical is coming to Texas at the Dallas Theater Center on September 2nd, and it will run through October 11th. The musical was written by Robert Horn and directed by Gary Griffin. The Hee Haw musical is loosely based on the television variety series that starred Roy Clark and Buck Owens. The Hee Haw musical is centered around a character named Misty Mae, who moves to Tampa, Florida to pursue her dreams.

The story follows Misty Mae as she returns home with her “slick city-boy” boyfriend. The drama begins when her boyfriend meets her family and friends. Clark did not give too many details about the musical, but she did say the story is also a love story. The country singer told Rolling Stone magazine that the musical pushes the sexual boundaries a little bit. “With Broadway, you can push the boundaries, so there’s some pretty risqué content,” Clark told Rolling Stone magazine. Moonshine: That Hee Haw Musical is also headed to Broadway.

Clark was recently announced as a Grammy performer. The country star is also nominated for Best New Artist and her album, 12 Stories, is nominated for Album of the Year. 12 Stories was released almost two years ago, and it peaked on the US Country charts at Number 23. The album produced three singles including “Stripes,” “Pray to Jesus,” and “Hungover.” Her lead single, “Stripes,” was co-written by Shane McAnally. Clark is currently one of the most sought after songwriters in country music. Some of the artists she has written for include Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire, LeAnn Rimes, The Band Perry, and Darius Rucker. Miranda Lambert was one of the people who encouraged Clark to become a country music artist, and write material for her personal projects. Brandy Clark will be heading out on the road with country music legend, Alan Jackson, this month. Their upcoming show will be at the Valley View Casino on February 20th in San Diego, California. In between her tour dates, Clark will also perform at the C2C Festival in London on the 7th and 8th of March.
