Check out eight more fascinating facts about the singer and musician that you definitely (probably) did not know below. You might be surprised by what you find out!
Number Eight: She Wrote Her First Song When She Was 12 Years Old. By the time Dion was a teenager, she had already written her first song. The song was titled “Ce n’etait qu’un reve,” which means “It Was Only a Dream” or “Nothing But A Dream,” and the song was sent to her future manager, Rene Angelil.
Number Seven: Her Husband Mortgaged His Home for Her. Well before they were dating or got married, Dion’s future manager, Rene Angelil, mortgaged his home to fund Dion’s album after hearing her voice. He was moved to tears by her voice.
Number Six: She Was the First Canadian to Receive a Gold Record in France. She received the record for her single titled “D’amuor ou d’amitie,” which translates to “Of Love or of Friendship.”
Number Five: She Almost Killed Her Voice. In 1989, Dion injured her voice when she was on her Incgnito Tour. She ended up consulting a doctor who told her she had to have surgery immediately or not use her voice for three weeks. She chose not to use her voice for three weeks.
Number Four: She Has a Wide Range of Influences. Dion has said that she idolizes Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, Carole King, and Anne Murray, among others. She even got to collaborate with many of her idols – one of whom was the Bee Gees.
Number Three: She Owns a Restaurant Chain. Dion is the founder of Nickels Restaurant food chain! That isn’t her only business endeavor, though. She also owns Les Productions Feeling Inc. with her husband.
Number Two: She Is Very Charitable. Dion has promoted the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, or CCFF, since 1982. She also supported “World Children’s Day,” and she is a huge supporter of the T.J. Martell Foundation.
Number One: She Lives in Vegas. Dion may not be as popular as she once was, but she is still going strong! She currently lives in Vegas with her family.
