Chance recently revealed Kanye West almost narrated his Surf project. “He was going to narrate it at one point. In the final weeks of getting ready to put it out, we had vocal chops that we were using from [Kanye] talking about some of the themes of the project,” Chance told The Guardian. He added,”Through just thinking about it- it didn’t end up happening that way. Not to say it wouldn’t have been dope as shit.” Last month, West stated that that Chance is one of the most talented young artists in music. Although the Surf project collaboration did not happen, the two rappers plan on working together some time in the near future. Surf is Chance’s first studio release. It was dropped on May 28th, and it featured the sounds of Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment. During its debut week, Surf was downloaded over 600,000 times on iTunes. The individual songs from the project were downloaded over 10 million times. Surf also features J. Cole, Big Sean, B.o.B., Jeremih, Janelle Monae, Busta Rhymes, Migos (King Louie and Quavo), BJ the Chicago Kid, and more.
