Charlotte Church recently got involved in anti-austerity protests, and now she will take part in a political debate at Glastonbury. Church is also scheduled to discuss politics on June 28th at the Worthy Farm festival. Mayor Ken Livingstone (London) and other political figures will also speak at the event. Church’s appearance at an anti-austerity rally in Cardiff (Wales) was mocked by journalist Katie Hopkins. “Oi! @CharlotteChurch wind your neck in. Your [sic] Welsh AND you lost. Own your problems,” Hopkins tweeted Church. The singer replied,”I have no interest in conversing with you. You lack humility AND you can’t spell. Parasite.” After the Twitter debate, Church challenged Hopkins to a boxing match.
Church first made a name for herself as a classical singer, before she transitioned into a pop music. Church has released six albums including Voice of an Angel, Charlotte Church, Dream a Dream, Enchantment, Tissues and Issues, and Back to Scratch. Her latest project, Back to Scratch, was dropped five years ago. To date, Church has sold over ten million records worldwide. She won British Artist of the Year at the Classical Brit Awards in 2000.
The singer’s Glastonbury debate will take place some time from June 24th through the 28th, which is when the festival will run. Kanye West, Florence and the Machine, and The Who will headline the event. George Ezra, The Waterboys, Courtney Barnett, The Vaccines, The Chemical Brothers, Run the Jewels, FKA Twigs, Flying Lotus, and more will also perform atGlastonbury. The festival’s organizer, Emily Eavis, recently revealed Glastonbury’s headliners for next year have already been booked. “We’ve got three headliners for next year, so that is completely sorted. We are in a really good position in that respect because it means we can now focus on the rest of the bill,” Eavis explained. She continued,”Every year the bands that are touring are completely different, so you never know quite who’s going to be around. It might be some years it’s heavier in one way, and some is lighter in the other.” Eavis also stated that Glastonbury tries to keep the artist lineup as diverse as possible in order to give their audience the best experience. Having artists on the bill from Rock, Hip-Hop, Pop, R&B, and EDM music helps keep their lineup diverse.
