Petr Cech, the goalkeeper for English Premier League giants Chelsea F.C., has uploaded a video on his YouTube channel which shows him covering “Walk” by Foo Fighters. In the studio footage that has quickly gone viral, he is seen playing the drums to the song.
Cech has been kept out of the side due to the arrival of Thibaut Courtois from Athletico Madrid and has been utilizing the time to improve his drum skills. He is often seen playing with the band Nightwork in Czech Republic.
The Czech international also shared his love for Foo Fighters and rock music in September. He tweeted a photo of them from backstage as they closed out the Invictus Games in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London. When asked by a twitter user about what kind of music he prefers, the Chelsea shotstopper revealed that Foo Fighters, along with Nirvana, Queen and Soundgarden, were his favourite bands. He also nominated Taylor Hawkins, the drummer for Foo Fighters, while completing his ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
Cech is most famous for being part of the Chelsea team that won the Champions league in 2012. He has previously shown a glimpse of his musical talents when he covered the classic “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor back in 2011.
Other footballers who have shown themselves to be adept musicians include Cech’s international teammate and Arsenal playmaker Tomas Rosicky and USMNT forward Clint Dempsey. Tomas Rosicky, known as “the little Mozart” for his football abilities, picked up the guitar when he was injured for 18 months throughout most of 2008 and 2009. Rosicky played live with the band Tri Sestry. United States forward Clint Dempsey showed his rapping skills in the song “Don’t Tread,” which featured XO and Big Hawk, as part of an advertising campaign by Nike before the 2006 World Cup. The song’s video was dedicated to his half sister, Jennifer, who passed away at the age of 16 from a fatal brain aneurysm.
It looks like Foo Fighters just can’t stay out of the news lately. The band is busy promoting their upcoming album, Sonic Highways, and revealed a new single, “Congregation” featuring Zac Brown, on the latest episode of their TV series, Sonic Highways, which details the making of their album.
