Number Ten: Smallest of Them All

The Chihuahua is smaller than any other dog breed on Earth, weighing usually no more than a maximum of 10 pounds. Because of their tiny full-grown size, the puppies of this breed have been known to weigh only a few ounces and fit in your hand. How cute!

Number Nine: Larger Breeds

To the delight of most owners of this breed, this type of dog tends to live much longer than larger dogs. Scientists have shown possible correlation to shorter lifespans for bigger dogs. The oldest Chihuahua ever to live made it to almost 21 years of age, but the average is about 18.

Number Eight: Not the Brightest

If you have ever encountered one of these dogs, we probably don’t have to be the ones to tell you that they aren’t exactly the brightest of breeds. According to the Stanley Coran’s Intelligence of Dogs book, this breed levels up at about 67 in the ranks. In layman’s terms, slightly below average intelligence. Although, Bulldogs rank 77.

Number Seven: Making the Ranks

Despite their poor intellect, dog lovers still adore this miniature companion. In terms of the U.S. annual registrations of dogs, Chihuahuas proved to be the 22nd most purchased pup in the year 2013. Labrador Retrievers topped out the list, but Paris Hilton carrying her little Chihuahua around in her purse didn’t exactly hinder their popularity.

Number Six: Chihuahuas In History

As per historical appearances of this dog breed, many scientists and dog specialists conspire that the Chihuahua is the same breed that was most popular in the ancient Toltec society. The artistry provided from their civilization showed amazing resemblance to the pups we know today.
