Childish Gambino – known to fans of his acting and comedy – is the rap name of Donald Glover. The performer has an equally impressive career in acting and music, and even though he tells a lot of his personal story onstage in his comedy, there is more to know about the man of many talents.
Number Fifteen: He’s a Lover of Karaoke. His favorite song to perform is “Kiss From a Rose” by Seal. Part of the reason he enjoys this song, in particular, is that other people in the karaoke bar are sure to join in and sing along.
Number Fourteen: He’s More Than Just a Music. And an actor and a comedian. He’s also a music producer, remix artist and DJ who sometimes makes tunes under the name MCDJ. Multifaceted much?
Number Thirteen: He Got His Hip Hop Alias From a Wu-Tang Name Generator. An appropriately comical way to get yourself a rapper name. Childish Gambino had those two words randomly paired together by an online generator of Wu-Tang-sounding hip hop names.
Number Twelve: He is Sometimes Mistaken for Danny Glover’s Son. The famous actor his sometimes thought to be his father, but there’s no connection. Apparently the only reason for this mix-up is the similarity of their names.
Number Eleven: He Has a Favorite Black Nerd. It’s Carlton from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Childish Gambino thinks Urkel was too much of a cartoon, and he’s absolutely correct on this one.
Number Ten: He Loves to Cook. His favorite dish to make is the classic Italian veal dish Osso Buco. Tony Soprano would be proud – he’s ordered this dish more than a few times.
Number Nine: He Has a Favorite Lyric From His Own Music. It’s from a song called “All The Shine” and it goes like this: “Cause I ain’t Mumford, I ain’t tryin’ to have sons. All I wanted was some more like Ashton” Fun fact: Childish Gambino is on the same record label as Mumford & Songs, the band alluded to in those lines. That’s it for now – check back for more Childish Gambino truths soon.
