Chipotle has become one of the most popular fast casual restaurant chains in the world. Despite the fact that the chain has spent a considerable amount of time in the spotlight and under the scrutiny of the public eye (especially recently), there are still some things that many people don’t know. With that in mind, here we present our list of 15 things you probably didn’t know about Chipotle. Check out part one below, and stay tuned for part two, coming soon!
Number Fifteen: There Are Special Burrito Coins. Chipotle will very occasionally reward extremely loyal customers with a “burrito coin,” which is reportedly valid for one free burrito. The franchise has been giving out the coins since 1999.
Number Fourteen: They Go Through 100,000 Avocados Every Day. It’s true! The fast casual franchise uses 100,000 avocados per day to make their famous guacamole. According to an ex-employee, their guacamole recipe includes avocados, red onions, cilantro, jalapenos, lime juice, and salt.
Number Thirteen: And They Get Their Avocados From Jason Mraz. This one might sound a bit strange, but singer and songwriter Jason Mraz actually operates an avocado farm in California, and most of them go to Chipotle. Mraz has said that he can eat up to four avocados a day.
Number Twelve: There Isn’t Really a Secret Menu. Though many people become obsessed with their favorite fast food chain’s secret menu, Chipotle doesn’t have one. However, you can request a quesarito if you really, really want one (and want to annoy your local employees).
Number Eleven: They’re Getting Into the Pizza Business. Chipotle is an investing partner in a chain called Pizzeria Locale, which is based out of Colorado. The enterprise is a fast casual pizza chain that operates similarly to Chipotle.
Number Ten: They Lost a Lawsuit Against a Man in a Wheelchair. One wheelchair-bound man sued the franchise because the counters were too tall for him to see over and get the full “Chipotle experience.” The man, Maurizio Antoninetti, won the case.
Number Nine: They Might Be Expanding Their Breakfast Program. Chipotle currently serves breakfast in just a few locations; however, they may soon be expanding their breakfast program. Right now, the chain’s restaurants in Baltimore-Washington and Dulles airports serve food during breakfast hours. Stay tuned for part two of this list, coming soon!
