Ciara made headlines when she released her single “I Bet” last year. The mid-tempo record gave the world CiCi’s side of the break-up with her ex-Future. I was a fan of the record when it came out, but to be honest, I haven’t listened to it since then. When a music video was released for the single, I had to check it out and in a word, it’s beautiful. Directed by Hannah Lux Davis (Nicki Minaj’s “Only”, Tinashe’s “2 On” Mike Will Made It’s “23”), the video is comprised of clean shots of Ciara looking stunning as she wears ballerina flats, flowing gowns and shows of her post-baby body with a couple dance scenes. I love the minimalist feel of the video, but I wish there was a little bit more to the video, maybe a storyline would help.
I wasn’t expecting a video for this single so it was a pleasant surprise to see the single is getting a video treatment. Other than Ciara looking great and some amazing shots, there isn’t much to take away from the video. “I Bet” was the world’s first preview of what’s to come with Ciara’s sixth album titled Jackie, which is the name of her mother and where she drew inspiration from with this new music. Ciara’s self-titled fifth album seemed to be a step in the right direction when it came to singles (“Body Party”, “I’m Out”) and solid music videos so I hope that CiCi really pushes herself with this upcoming record.
Being 13 years into the game, the former princess of “crunk & b” doesn’t get enough credit for the work she’s put into her career. It can be difficult to top singles like (“Goodies”, “1, 2 Step” “Promise”, and “Ride” to name a few), but I’m seeing a more confident artist in this new era. Her voice on “I Bet” has definitely improved compared to other records and seeing Ciara in the video, it’s apparent that she’s grown into her own as an artist. I’ll definitely be rooting for you CiCi!
