Number Fifteen: She Used to Do Her Own Hair for Photo Shoots. When Crawford was modeling in Chicago, she had to do her own hair, her own makeup, and she even had to bring her own accessories along to photo shoots.
Number Fourteen: She Respects the Work it Takes to Look Natural. Crawford has said that she especially enjoyed working with photographer Herb Ritts because “he made me look like the way I wished I woke up in the morning.”
Number Thirteen: She Misses Pre-Digital Photography Modeling. Crawford has said that utilizing digital photography on a shoot can sometimes interrupt the fluidity and rhythm between the photographer and a model. Specifically, she has said that being stopped in a shoot to “fix” something spotted on a digital photo could prevent a “weirdly beautiful” moment from being captured.
Number Twelve: She Didn’t Always Know How to Smile. In fact, it took Crawford “at least 10 years” to perfect her smile. She said that that might explain why you don’t see her smiling in much of her earlier work.
Number Eleven: She Had a No-Frills Wedding. You might think of Crawford as a supermodel with all sorts of stylists at her every beck and call. However, you might be surprised to learn that her wedding dress code was “no shoes, no jackets, and no ties.” Crawford wore minimal makeup to her wedding to Rande Gerber and her hair in beachy waves.
Number Ten: She Jokes About Being Jealous of Her Daughter. Crawford has said that she will often tease her daughter about having her “old” hair or her “old” legs, especially because her daughter resembles her so much. Though Crawford makes getting old look easy, she admits that it isn’t always that way.
Number Nine: She Said No Too Often. Crawford said in an interview with Refinery 29 that she wishes she had said “yes” more often. Specifically, she said “no” quite frequently in her younger modeling days because she was afraid she couldn’t maintain her persona of being a cool supermodel all the time.
