Coca Cola: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 2)

We already brought you part one of our list of 15 things you probably did not know about Coca Cola, and now we’re back with part two! Check out eight more fascinating facts about the wildly popular soda that you definitely (probably) did not know below. You might be surprised by what you find out!

Number Eight: It Would Take One Person Nine Years to Get Through Every Single Coke Product. If a person decided to drink one different Coca Cola product every day until he or she got through all of them, it would take nine years. There are allegedly about 3,500 different Coke products currently on the market.

Number Seven: It Has Its Own Economy. The company has the 84th largest economy in the world, which doesn’t make it an economic superpower by any means, but is still pretty insane for something that doesn’t technically have its own government.

Number Six: The Original Bottle Is Shaped That Way for a Reason. The first version of the Coke bottle had some problems because its labels would often slide off when the bottles were in coolers. The iconic glass bottle design that most people are familiar with today was designed to keep the label in place.

Number Five: It Was Boycotted for Being Anti-Semitic. Despite the fact that Coca Cola sells kosher versions of their products during Passover, the company was accused of being anti-semitic after an Egyptian plant stated that they refused to open a factory in Israel.

Number Four: The Company Had Beef With Martin Luther King, Jr. It’s true! During King’s iconic “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech, he called for a boycott of “white products,” which for him, included Coke.

Number Three: There Have Been Some Murder Mysteries in the Company’s Guatemalan and Colombian Plants. Coca Cola’s plants in Guatemala and Colombia have been involved in some unexplained murders of factory workers who belong to unions. Unfortunately, the company has failed to launch exhaustive investigations and a lot of information about the deaths is still unresolved.

Number Two: They Bribed Dentists. It’s no secret that drinking soda is bad for your teeth, but the company went one step further when they donated $1 million to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Interestingly, shortly after the company made the donation, the academy came out with a public statement saying that Coke wasn’t bad for children’s teeth.

Number One: They Hate Tap Water. And that’s because tap water is Coke’s biggest competition! After tap water and coffee, the soda is the most frequently imbibed beverage in the world. We hope you enjoyed our list of 15 things you didn’t know about Coca Cola!
