Adorable Couple Recreates Wedding 70 Years Later

There’s love, and then there’s this kind of love. A 98-year-old Chinese couple decided to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary by recreating their wedding – suit, tuxedo and all. The photos were taken at Northern Hot Spring Park, located in Chongqing, China, reports Mashable.

Cao Yuehua and Wang Deyi were married on November 24, 1945. To celebrate their anniversary this year, they returned to the park where they were married in Southwest China. Their four children helped to organize the recreation. Though this isn’t something that every couple does on their 70th wedding anniversary (if they even make it that far), this kind of behavior isn’t new for Yuehua and Deyi. For their 60th wedding anniversary in 2005, they recreated their original wedding photo.

Yuehua and Deyi met in 1943 when they were both in school. Yuehua asked Deyi to go to a university ball, and according to their son, they fell in love at first sight. However, it was not always easy for the couple to be together. Yuehua had to leave Deyi and travel to India during World War II to act as an interpreter. He didn’t even get the chance to say goodbye in person.

Despite these setbacks, the couple stayed in touch via mail, and when the war ended, Yuehua came back to propose to Deyi as soon as they were reunited. According to their son, Cao Pangpei, “They have been together for so long, going through the war, the political turmoil and diseases, and can still stay with each other and love each other. We want to help them to commemorate their love.”

Both Yuehua and Deyi are now 98, but that hasn’t stopped them from celebrating each other. Though their memories are fading, they are still able to recite the love poems they wrote to each other during wartime from memory. Their love is clearly visible to others, as their son was able to speak about it in such an affectionate way. And the new photos reflect this; while the couple looks a little more subdued than in their original wedding photos, they are glowing and appear happy as ever.
