Number Fifteen: Dairy Queen’s “Brazier” Locations Are Special
If you see the word “Brazier” next to a DQ, get excited. That means it serves hot food in addition to its cold treats.
Number Fourteen: Its Name Has Nothing to Do With Royalty
You might think DQ was named after a girl who really loved ice cream, but that’s not actually the case. In reality, the name was born after the man who helped invent soft-serve, Jack “Grandpa” McCullough, called his creation the queen of dairy.
Number Thirteen: Don’t Ask an Employee for That Soft-Serve Recipe
The recipe is a trade secret and is guarded quite intensely. The chief branding officer of the company, Michael Keller, has said that the recipe is located in a safe with just a few keys that can open it.
Number Twelve: Gwen Stefani Worked There
It’s true! Though the singer is most well-known for her roles in the band No Doubt and as a judge on The Voice, she actually worked at a DQ in 1986. She worked there with her brother.
Number Eleven: It Was Around for 45 Years Before the Blizzard Came to Be
Though DQ was made famous for their Blizzards, the creation didn’t come about until 1985. Considering that Dairy Queen has been in existence since 1940, that’s a lot of time spent without a signature creation.
Number Ten: China’s Number One Seller Is the Green Tea Blizzard
If that sounds gross to you, you’re not alone. However, if you’re in China, you might be alone because DQ’s green tea Blizzard is the number one seller over there.
Number Nine: It Has an Esteemed Fanbase – Including Warren Buffett
Berkshire Hathaway owns Dairy Queen, and Warren Buffett owns Berkshire Hathaway. Despite his obvious connection to the company, he has objectively said that he loves the products, and especially the ice cream.
