Dave Chappelle Returns to NYC With Killer Lineup

Dave Chappelle will be performing at Radio City Music Hall from June 24th to the 26th, and he will not be alone.  Chappelle is recruiting the musical talents of The Roots, Janelle Monáe, Erykah Badu, Busta Rhymes, DJ Premier, and a full orchestra.  Even more guests are expected to be announced as the date gets closer.

The concert will take place right after five straight days of Chappelle stand up performances which sold out within minutes of their announcement.  These three new performances will feature Chapelle Stand-up intermixed with musical performances.  The massive lineup is reminiscent of Chappelle’s famous Brooklyn Block Party which was the subject of Michael Gondry’s 2005 documentary.  Both The Roots and Badu featured in the block party, making connection to the two events that much stronger.  It also helps that it will be almost ten years exactly between the two New York based events.

This is quite a large scale event for Chappelle who only returned to comedy in 2013 after spending several years away.  Although the years after the 2004 Block Party were filled with turbulence for the young comedian, Chappelle has still claimed a very strong fan base.  His film roles in Half Baked, Blue Streak, and Undercover Brother as well as his wildly popular Chappelle’s Show have kept him part of pop culture throughout his absence.  The recent Comedy Central hit show Key & Peele is highly influenced by Chapelle’s pioneering style of sketch comedy.

Tickets become available for all three performances on May 29th for American Express Card Members at 10 am EST.  General Public Tickets become available June 2nd at 10 am EST, with prices from $59 to $125.  More information can be found on the Radio City Music Hall website here.
