Sometimes it seems like the news is on repeat rather than shuffle. Taylor Swift wants the media to stop focusing on her love life, Morrissey has had to cancel more tour dates, Dr. Luke filed another lawsuit, and Chris Brown said something offensive about a woman. Oh, and the internet obsessed over a Vine – in this case, Elton John falling off a chair. Clearly, it’s business as usual in the music world.
Taylor Swift: The famed romance/breakup songstress tweeted a familiar request this morning. “As my 25th birthday present from the media, I’d like for you to stop accusing all my friends of dating me. #thirsty.” It’s not the first time Swift has asked the media to stop fixating on her relationships, as she has addressed the “she just writes songs about her ex-boyfriends” assumption several times and described it as sexist.
Morrissey: It’s been a tough year for the former Smiths frontman, who has faced a long series of snags on his 2014 tour. First, a serious cancer scare forced him to cancel numerous tour dates. Then, he was dropped by his label. Then, another show fell through, when a fan heckled him about his cancer and he walked off the stage. Today, Morrissey has cancelled three more shows and rescheduled two others, due to “logistical problems” that caused him to miss his flight from London to Greece. You can cross your fingers for Moz and check out his remaining tour dates here.
Dr. Luke: Just when you thought it couldn’t get messier, the Dr. Luke and Kesha sexual abuse case has been tangled with yet another lawsuit. Dr. Luke, aka Lukasz Gottwald, is now piling on a defamation suit against Kesha’s lawyer, Mark Geragos. When Lady Gaga recently came out about having been raped as a teen, Geragos made comments on Twitter that implied Gottwald was the rapist. This all comes less than a week after Kesha’s mother sued Gottwald, after he countersued Kesha, after Kesha sued him.
Chris Brown: At an L.A. concert this weekend, the rapper announced his current relationship status with his on-and-off girlfriend, Karrueche Tran. Brown asked the audience, “How many single ladies we got in here tonight?” and followed it up with, “Well, I’m single too. F*** that bitch.” After taking some heat for the comment, he attempted to make amends today via Instagram, writing, among other sentiments, “I don’t care how my image my look to the public because I’m still gonna be the best at what I do. I just want baby girl to know I apologize!”
Elton John: If it’s a day that ends in the letter Y, the internet is obsessing over a Vine. Sir Elton John is the viral victim today, after a slow tumble off a chair at a tennis match. Fine, we’ll give you the link. Enjoy your Monday news.
