Squad Goals – Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez

Friendship is an important component to life. It’s true, everyone gets by with a little help from their friends. Friendship is necessary at any and every age, and the people you are friends with often shape who you are. Two of the best friends in the limelight right now are Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez. Below is a timeline of their iconic friendship.

Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez’s friendship first began on Barney and Friends. Lovato was seven years old and Gomez was eight years old when they met. Lovato and Gomez sang, danced, and acted together on the show. With each episode, their friendship grew deeper and stronger. After both Lovato and Gomez were told they were getting “too old” to appear on Barney, they went their separate ways but still stayed in touch.

Fast forward to the wonderful world of Disney. Lovato and Gomez both became infamous Disney Channel stars. Lovato starred as Mitchie Torres in the Disney Channel Original Movie, Camp Rock. She then eventually starred in her own show, Sonny With a Chance. Gomez also landed her own Disney Channel show, Wizards of Waverly Place, in which she played the main character, Alex Russo. Lovato and Gomez solidified their Disney roots through their strong fanbase, each having their set of loyal fans. They became stronger, more talented actresses while working with Disney.

As their careers shifted from child actors to preteen superstars, one thing about Lovato and Gomez stayed the same: their friendship. As teenagers, Lovato and Gomez still spent every free moment they had with one another, and they even created a YouTube channel together. Lovato and Gomez again proved their friendship and their BFF status to millions of people in The Disney Channel Original Movie, Princess Protection Program. Although they portrayed fictional characters, their real-life bond as best friends was evident in the movie. From every hug to every laugh, each scene had a little piece of Lovato and Gomez’s friendship in it.

After Princess Protection Program, it was evident that the BFFs were getting older. They developed romantic relationships, different friendships, and each went through their own life struggles. Many believed that “Semi,” the affectionate portmanteau describing the pair, had dissolved. They believed that, sadly, the best friends since childhood would never gain their BFF status back. These fans were wrong.

Today, now in their early 20s, Lovato and Gomez are still best friends. Lovato and Gomez have grown up together. From the beginning of their careers to speed bumps in life, the two have always been there for one another. You can check out the cutest, most recent picture of the BFFs on Lovato’s Twitter page.
