The Dixie Chicks are reuniting in order to embark on a European tour next year. The announcement was made on the band’s website, “The Dixie Chicks have announced that they will be returning to Europe to tour in 2016. Starting in Amsterdam, the tour will then head to the UK and Ireland to play arenas in Birmingham, Manchester, London, Glasgow, and will culminate in Dublin.” Whether or not the Dixie Chicks will tour in North America is unknown; the band hasn’t toured in the US in over nine years.
The Dixie Chicks have released seven studio albums, and their last project, Taking the Long Way, was dropped in 2006. Taking the Long Way entered the Billboard 200 at Number 1, and it also impacted the charts in the UK, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, New Zealand, Germany, Ireland, Denmark, Canada, and Australia. Three singles were released from the album including “Not Ready to Make Nice,” “Everybody Knows,” and “The Long Way Around.” Taking the Long Way won two Grammy Awards in 2006 for Album of the Year and Best Country Album. The single “Not Ready to Make Nice” won three Grammys for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year. To date, the album has sold over four million copies worldwide.
The band’s other projects include Thank Heavens for Dale Evans, Little Ol’ Cowgirl, Shouldn’t a Told You That, Wide Open Spaces, Fly, and Home. Wide Open Spaces (1998) became the Dixie Chicks’ breakthrough success. It has sold over ten million copies, earning a Diamond certification. It was led by the hit singles “I Can Love You Better,” “There’s Your Trouble,” “Wide Open Spaces,” “You Were Mine,” and “Tonight the Heartache’s on Me.” Wide Open Spaces won a Grammy for Best Country Album, and the song “There’s Your Trouble” won for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. “There’s Your Trouble” went to Number 1 on the Hot Songs chart, and it also charted in the UK (Number 26) and Canada (Number 3). The Dixie Chicks are the biggest female band of all time in the US, and they have sold over 30 million albums.
