DNCE may have been around for less than a year, but they have already amassed quite a following. This is in no small part due to their well-known lead singer, Joe Jonas, of Jonas Brothers fame. Joined by guitarist JinJoo Lee, bassist Cole Whittle and drummer Jack Lawless, they released their debut EP, SWAAY, in October 2015. Joe Jonas played the part of band leader Johnny Casino in the FOX remake, and DNCE were his backing band, The Gamblers. One of the songs they played during the performance was a 50’s-style remix of their single “Cake by the Ocean.”
Number Fourteen: They Share a Bassist with Semi Precious Weapons
Before being introduced to Joe Jonas, Cole Whittle played bass for Semi Precious Weapons. The band went on hiatus in late 2014 and Whittle joined Jonas’ band at the suggestion of Semi Precious Weapons lead singer-turned-pop songwriter Justin Tranter.

In November 2015, the DNCE embarked on the Greatest Tour Ever Tour, which included 14 dates around the country. It was also sponsored by Diesel, who provided designer dudes that the band wore while performing.
Number Twelve: They Did a Cover Song Using Office Supplies
In March 2016, DNCE released a video for their cover of Rihanna’s song “Work.” What makes the cover unique is the fact that they don’t use any real instruments on it, only staplers, computer keyboards, calculators and other office supplies. The video actually gets pretty chaotic, with paper and supplies being strewn all over the place as the song glitches out.
Number Eleven: The ‘Cake by the Ocean’ Video Was Directed by Jonas’ Girlfriend
Joe Jonas has been dating supermodel Gigi Hadid for nearly a year. Just as he supports her by watching her walk during fashion week, she supports his work too. Hadid even directed the band’s music video for the platinum-selling single “Cake by the Ocean.”
Number Ten: The Jonas Brothers Are Supportive of Each Other’s New Solo Projects
Just because The Jonas Brothers broke up in 2013, doesn’t mean that they no longer support each other. It’s quite the opposite, in fact. Joe Jonas recently told InStyle Magazine that he and Nick are humbled to each have a second shot at music, and that they both go to each other’s shows.
Number Nine: They Sell Kazoos at Their Shows
During the song “Jinx,” Cole Whittle plays the kazoo as part of the chorus. This unique instrumental choice has taken hold with their fans. Now, the band sells kazoos at their shows so their fans can harmonize during the song. Stay tuned for part two of our list of 15 facts about DNCE, coming soon.
