Ducati is an Italian motorcycle manufacturer responsible for developing one of the most recognizable and highly respected brands in the world. However, despite its continued presence in the public eye, there are still some things about the brand that many people don’t know. Number Eight: It All Began in Bologna
The company was created in 1926 in the heart of Bologna, Italy. Ducati was first run out a small workshop and produced electric condensers before anything else. At the beginning, the company had just two employees and one secretary.
Number Seven: After 10 Years, Ducati Had 1,200 Employees
In 1936, 10 years after the company’s birth, there were 1,200 employees. The company had become successful enough to expand into a larger factory, and the success only grew from there.
Number Six: The Story Behind the Cucciolo
The very first engine the company manufactured was called the Cucciolo, or the Puppy. It was first sold in 1946 out of a box and was an auxiliary engine designed to be assembled on the frame of a bicycle.
Number Five: Monster Popularity
The Ducati Monster was first displayed in 1993. Since that year, the company has sold over 300,000 units of the Monster. Impressive!
Number Four: You Can Tour Ducati’s Factory
It’s true! If you make an appointment, you can experience all the glory that is the company’s factory, located in Bologna. If you’re ever in the area, this is a must-do! There are instructions and directions on the company’s website.
Number Three: More Than 600,000 People Have Stepped Foot in the Factory and Museum
Since 1998, more than 600,000 people have gone on tours of the company’s factory and museum. However, if you’re interested in checking out the museum, be sure to do it soon! The museum is closing down from March 29th to mid-June to prepare for the celebration of the company’s 90th anniversary.
Number Two: SuperBike Championships
Ducati has won the SuperBike World Championship 14 times with its riders and 17 times as a manufacturer. The total number of the company’s victories is more than twice that of the next-best competitor.
Number One: A Special MotoGP World Championship
The company won the MotoGP WorldChampionship in 2007 with driver Casey Stoner. Before this championship, it had been 33 years since an Italian manufacturer won the championship. Thanks for reading!
