The Eagles are one of the most iconic bands of the 1970s. Though the band has spent a lot of time in the public eye, there are still some things that many people do not know about them. With that in mind, here we present our list of 15 things you probably didn’t know about the Eagles. Check out part one below, and stay tuned for part two, coming soon!
Number Fifteen: They Have an Interesting Connection to Bob Seger. Punch Andrews managed Glenn Frey before he was part of the Eagles, and Andrews also managed Bob Seger. In fact, Frey and Seger even sang together on Seger’s “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man.”
Number Fourteen: They Spent a Lot of Money on a “Hotel California” Follow-Up. Not only did the Eagles spend $800,000 on trying to make a follow-up to “Hotel California,” but they also spent three years on it as well. All of that effort eventually became The Long Run.
Number Thirteen: Travis Tritt Inspired Their Reunion. Thanks to country star Travis Tritt, the Eagles reunited in the early 1990s. He had asked the original Eagles to act as his backing band in his music video for “Take It Easy” in the early 1990s.
Number Twelve: “Love Will Keep Us Alive” Was Not a Hit the First Time Around. A demo of “Love Will Keep Us Alive” was submitted and subsequently did not impress executives. However, a second pass of the single thankfully got the Eagles’ manager’s attention.
Number Eleven: They Released an Album Exclusively in Wal-Mart. In 2007, the Eagles released Long Road Out of Eden exclusively in Wal-Mart. The album was the follow-up to The Long Run. Several retailers bought the album from Wal-Mart in bulk so they could sell it themselves.
Number Ten: They Were Not Really a California Band. Though one of their most famous songs has the word “California” in it, only one member grew up in California. That member was Timothy B. Schmit, who was the very last Eagle to join. Schmit was an Oakland native.
Number Nine: Don Henley Was Rewarded for a Prank. In fact, Henley’s mom bought him his very first drum kit after he blew up his family’s laundry tub.
