Elvis Presley: Jets Being Removed From Graceland

Two airplanes that were once owned by Elvis Presley, may be moved from Graceland to a location down the street. The Shelby County Land Use Control Board recently approved a proposal to move the airplanes named “Hound Dog II” and “Lisa Marie” to an aircraft located down the street from the Graceland property. The proposal was drafted by the current owner of the airplanes, OKC Partnership. The airplanes are a staple at Graceland, and the planes have been on the property since the 1980s.

The planes were purchased by OKC Partnership, after Presley died. OKC Partnership agreed to keep the planes at Graceland, and the company received a portion of Graceland’s ticket sales. Earlier this month, OKC Partnership sent a letter to Elvis Presley Enterprises stating it was ending the agreement to keep the planes on the Graceland property. The planes are expected to be moved to its new location on or before April 26th. Although the planes will no longer be on the property, it will be a part of an outdoor display for Graceland tourists. According to reports, the Memphis City Council must also approve the proposal before the planes are moved to another location.

Elvis Presley‘s Graceland will now be in Las Vegas, Nevada as well. The exhibit will be 28,000 square feet, becoming the the second largest Presley display. The biggest display is at the original exhibit in Graceland, of course. The Westgate Las Vegas Hotel and Casino will have a rotating display of the legend’s artifacts and memorabilia. A majority of the clothes and shoes that will be shown, will come from Elvis Presley’s personal stash.

Elvis Presley has sold more than 600 million records worldwide, and he is one of the top-selling recording artists in music history. Some of Presley’s studio albums include Elvis Is Back!, On Stage, Somebody for Everybody, Jailhouse Rock, Blue Hawaii, Promised Land, Today, and That’s the Way It Is. The undisputed “King of Rock and Roll” was inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.

This year, Presley’s first recordings were sold at an auction for $300,000. It has been reported that Jack White purchased the recordings, which consisted of two songs, “My Happiness” and “That’s When Your Heartaches Begin.” The songs were recorded at Sam Phillip’s Memphis Recording Service in the early 1950s. The songs were once estimated at $500,000, which only cost an 18 year old Elvis Presley $4 dollars to purchase.
