Fall Out Boy ft. Demi Lovato: ‘Irresistible’ Single Review

Fall Out Boy has teamed up with Demi Lovato to remix their American Beauty/American Psycho single “Irresistible.” The upgraded track was accompanied by a U.S tour announcement—Wintour Is Coming—which begins in February. As if that wasn’t enough, Fall Out Boy has also announced a full remix album—Make America Psycho Again—which contains yet another remix of “Irresistible” featuring hip-hop trio Migos. The album was released on October 30, 2015.

Demi Lovato’s vocals bring a fiery new edge to the American Beauty/American Psycho opener; she harmonizes the chorus and sings back and forth with Patrick Stump in the second verse. There are even a couple of switched up lyrics near the end: “I still love the way I hurt you.”  But aside from these minor tweaks, the track is pretty much the same killer single FOB released with American Beauty/American Psycho back in January.

When speaking about the remix on their blog, Fall Out Boy said, “‘Irresistible’ always felt like it could become something else, something exciting, strange, beyond. I think Demi Lovato has one of the most powerful voices today. So we worked through an afternoon and she just got it.”

The band has discussed before how “Irresistible” was initially inspired by the relationship between Sex Pistol’s Sid Vicious and punk rock icon Nancy Spungen. The image of “Irresistible” was described by bassist Pete Wentz as “Sid and Nancy in an alley, garbage raining down on them in an external spiral of romance and poison.” When we consider this image as Fall Out Boy’s motivation for the track, the addition of female vocals does seem like a more calculated move.

The Lovato “Irresistible” remix came with its own low-budget video, featuring internet phenomenon Doug the Pug in various Fall Out Boy-inspired costumes. The band tweeted that there is an official video on its way, but for now you can catch Doug shooting some hoops below.
