Family Guy: 10 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 2)

You saw part one of what you don’t know about Family Guy, and there is much more to come in part two! Find out how Seth McFarlane almost died, the real origins of our beloved television series, and much more about the comedic, one of a kind Family Guy! Well, don’t take our word for it – check it out for yourself below!

Number Five: In the Beginning. Family Guy wasn’t always a hit T.V. show, it had to climb its way up to the top. When it started out, Family Guy was just a short that debuted on Cartoon Network in 1997. After a few pilots, the concept took off and McFarlane developed the show we know and love today. However, it was not always the show that we have grown to love.

Number Four: It Wasn’t Always Family GuyWhen the shorts premiered, it wasn’t even Family Guy back then. Or really, anything close for that matter. It originally started out as a series of short films called “The Life of Larry”, later altered to “Larry & Steve”. This was a thesis series of films McFarlane created in 1995 at the Rhode Island School of Design. The show featured a take on the characters who later transformed into Peter and Brian, with a middle-aged man (Larry) and his intellectual dog (Steve).

Number Three: Seth McFarlane Almost Never had the Chance. Astonishingly, the future of Family Guy was almost altered forever when America experienced its most tragic event. Seth McFarlane was meant to be a passenger on one of the planes involved in the 9/11 tragedy but thankfully arrived 10 minutes late for his flight.

Number Two: Emmy Nomination. The wildly popular television series gained a reputation and grew, earning itself an Emmy nomination in the year 2009 under the category of outstanding comedy series. Unfortunately, Family Guy came up short, with the award going to 30 Rock.

Number One: Still an Achievement. Even though Family Guy didn’t win the Emmy Award, the show still received quite a bit of recognition for its nomination. The show was the first animated television series nominated for this award since the nomination of The Flintstones in the year 1961.
