Number Ten: Silicone Oil in McNuggets. Silicone oil is often used in contact lenses and other medical devices, but you might be ingesting it when you eat those delicious chicken McNuggets. Though silicone oil is technically non-toxic, it probably isn’t the best thing to put in your body.

Number Nine: Prescription Drugs in Chicken Supply. A study conducted at Johns Hopkins University found that the chickens used to supply fast food chains are being fed many prescription drugs. The drugs are most commonly included in the feed given to the chickens, and researchers found anti-depressants, antibiotics, arsenic, and allergy medications in the feed.

Number Eight: Propylene Glycol in Salad. Have you ever wondered how McDonald’s keeps those green salads so fresh and crispy? Well, the secret is in propylene glycol. McDonald’s puts propylene glycol in their salads so they can sit out for days without compromising their crispy quality. Interestingly, propylene glycol is also used in antifreeze and in the vapor for e-cigarettes.

Number Seven: Cysteine-L in Apple Pie. Cysteine-L is an amino acid most often synthesized from human hair and duck feathers. It can be used in meat to add artificial flavoring, and it is often used to soften mass-produced pastries and bread. Well, McDonald’s uses Cysteine-L in their apple pies and other baked goods so they have that extra soft quality. We’ll take ours crunchy, thanks.

Number Six: Silicone Dioxide in Chili. Silicone dioxide can be used in making glass, fiber optic cables, and cement. More commonly known as sand, silicone dioxide is used in Wendy’s chili to prevent it from clumping. That’s how the chili can stay in the pot for so long without turning into a giant ball of meat!
