FKA Twigs might seem like a mysterious person, but she has quickly risen to fame since her musical debut. Her whispery, dark tunes are memorable to say the least, and she has been linked to Robert Pattinson, which has only made her more noticeable in the public eye. However, despite all the time that she’s spent under the spotlight, there are still some things about FKA Twigs that most people don’t know. With that in mind, here we present our list of 15 things you probably didn’t know about FKA Twigs. Check out part one below, and stay tuned for part two, coming soon!
Number Fifteen: She Was Not Always FKA Twigs. FKA Twigs was born Tahlilah Debrett Barnett. She gets the “twigs” part of her name from the way that her joints crack while she dances, and the “FKA” part arose after a musical group called “The Twigs” accused her of stealing their namesake. “FKA” stands for “Formerly Known As.”
Number Fourteen: She Was a Serious Backup Dancer. Before she was well-known for her own musical prowess, FKA Twigs was a backup dancer for all sorts of talented artists. Some of these artists include Ed Sheeran, Kylie Minogue, Taio Cruz and Jessie J.
Number Thirteen: She Thinks Her Appearance Influences Her Genre. When FKA Twigs first released her music, before anyone knew what she looked like, people were describing her music as unclassifiable, and many people believed that it did not fit in a specific genre. However, she believes her mixed-race appearance has influenced the industry to classify her as alternative R&B.
Number Twelve: She Remembers Her First Kiss. According to FKA Twigs’ Twitter account, she remembers her first kiss, which occurred when she was 16 years old. She also mentioned that the kiss happened while listening to Nelly’s “Dilemma.”
Number Eleven: She Is Engaged to a Twilight Star. FKA Twigs is engaged to Twilight star Robert Pattinson, and the two have been photographed together many times.
Number Ten: She Would Rather Focus on Music Than Fame. In an interview with Pitchfork, Twigs said that everything she does is in an effort to learn more about her music. She said, “I love my music, so I want to produce, write and serve my music. I’ve had to learn about EQ frequencies and programming, and space, and clutter, and hot to be a better piano or bass player, everything.”
Number Nine: She Didn’t Meet Her Biological Father Until She Was 18. Twigs was raised by her biological mother and step-father. Though she did not meet her biological father until she was 18 years old, both of her biological parents were dancers, so that’s probably where she gets it from.
