Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather has set his next bout, just four months after his victory against Manny Pacquiao. The boxer announced he will fight against Andre Berto on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV. This will mark Mayweather’s final fight, closing his iconic career without a blemish on his 48-0, 26 KOs record. The event will be broadcast on Showtime Pay-Per-View at 8pm (Eastern Standard Time). Mayweather understands the magnitude of the last fight in his 19-year boxing career, and he is more than confident he can defeat Berto and finish with a 49-0 record. The 49th victory will tie the champion with boxing great Rocky Marciano, who also recorded 49 wins. “I am ready to get back in the ring on September 12th and prove again to the whole world why I’m the best ever. I always bring my A-game, and this fight against Andre Berto is no exception,” Mayweather stated. He added,”He’s a young, strong fighter who is hungry to take down the best. Forty-eight have tried before, and on September 12th, I’m going to make it forty-nine.”
Andre Berto is a two-time welterweight world titleholder with a respectable record of 30-3, 23 KOs. Even though he is just 3-3 in his last six bouts, Berto promises to knockout the undefeated champion. “I am coming to kick Floyd’s ass on September 12th. Best believe that I plan to bring it to Floyd and I’m not concerned about what forty-eight other fighters have been unable to do,” Berto body stated. He continued,”Somebody is getting knocked out, and it won’t be me. You don’t want to miss this.”
The CEO of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe, doesn’t seem too concerned about Berto’s claim that he is going to knockout Mayweather. Ellerbe said the legendary boxer is always prepared, and he never takes a fighter for granted. “We know Berto is coming in looking to knock Floyd’s head off. Floyd just has to be prepared. We know Berto is motivated,” he said. Ellerbe reiterated,”[Berto] has had ups and downs in his career, but he has been able to bounce back and show the fans- he’s never in a dull fight. Berto is coming with the mentality of ‘I am gonna get him or he is gonna get me.'”
