Forever 21 is one of the biggest brands in the world. The brand makes clothing that is both trendy and affordable, and it is hugely popular for people both under and over the age of 21. Number Fifteen: It Used to Be Called Fashion 21. Forever 21 opened in Los Angeles in 1984, but it wasn’t called Forever 21 – it was called Fashion 21. The name change happened after its founder, Do Won Chang, was opening a new store every six months or so.
Number Fourteen: It’s in the Family. Forever 21 founder Do Won Chang’s two daughters both ended up joining the company after they graduated college. One joined as the head of their Marketing Department, and another of his daughters became the lead Visuals Director.
Number Thirteen: It’s the United States’ Fifth Largest Specialty Retailer. It’s true! You might have known Forever 21 is big, but we bet you didn’t know it was that big.
Number Twelve: The First Store Outside of California Was Built in Florida. In Miami, Florida’s Mall of Americas, to be exact. The store in Florida opened in 1995.
Number Eleven: It’s Been Sued for Copyright Infringement Many Times. As of 2009, the company had been sued at least 50 times for copyright infringement, and it’s probably been sued since then. If you’ve ever been inside a Forever 21 store, then you’re aware of how many graphic tees there are – the copyright infringement possibilities are endless.
Number Ten: They Fired Chrissy Teigen. In a highly publicized event, the brand fired Chrissy Teigen from a photoshoot because they thought she was too fat. Yeah, seriously.
