Future: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 1)

Future has quickly risen to the ranks of being one of the most recognizable and highly regarded rappers of his time. Though he has spent a considerable amount of time in the media, there are still some things about him that most people do not know. Here, we present our list of 15 things you probably didn’t know about Future. Check out part one below, and stay tuned for part two, coming soon!

Number Fifteen: He Changed His Last Name to Cash. Future was born with the name Nayvadius Wilburn; however, he changed his last name from Wilburn to Cash so that if he was accused of anything illegal, the police would have a harder time catching him.

Number Fourteen: He Calls His Studio the Batcave. Future calls his recording studio the Batcave because it is completely black, has a black gate and is extremely secluded.

Number Thirteen: He Makes Astronaut Music. Well, that’s what he calls it, anyway. Future says that he calls what he does “astronaut music” because, “…it takes an astronaut so long to get to space – that’s how long it takes to catch up on my music.”

Number Twelve: He Used to Be a Meathead. Before he was Future, he called himself Meathead aka The Future. When he was signed, Rocko, the guy who signed him, insisted that Future drop the “Meathead” part of his name.

Number Eleven: Before He was Future, He Was Phuture. Just like he had to drop the Meathead part of his name, Future actually used to be called Phuture, with a different spelling. He eventually changed it to Future, though.

Number Ten: He Spent a Lot of Time in His Great-Aunt’s House. Future was raised by his mother, who worked as a 911 operator. However, she left him at his great-aunt’s house during her shifts, and it was then that he realized that it was actually a trap house. He said, “I had multiple aunties, I had multiple uncles, that was on drugs. When you grow up in something, you don’t even know if it’s bad or good. You just know that’s how it is.”

Number Nine: He Works Hard. According to an interview he did with Rolling Stone, Future works in his “lab” up to 20 hours every day.
