Gloria Estefan: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 1)

Gloria Estefan is one of the most iconic singers and songwriters of the 1980s and 1990s. The 58-year-old may not be as young as she once was, but she’s still going strong. However, despite all the time she has spent in the spotlight, there are still some things that many people don’t know about her. Number Fifteen: Her Name Is Very, Very Long. Though she goes by Gloria Estefan, her full name is actually Gloria Maria Milagrosa Fajardo Garcia de Estefan. That’s a mouthful!

Number Fourteen: She Has a Degree in Psychology. Estefan graduated from the University of Miami in 1979, and she earned her Bachelor of Arts in psychology. She also minored in French.

Number Thirteen: She Was Almost in the CIA. While Estefan was at the University of Miami, she worked at the Miami International Airport as a translator. Because of her language skills, she was approached by the CIA to become an employee. However, it did not pan out.

Number Twelve: She Has Only Had One Boyfriend. Estefan revealed that Emilio Estefan was her “first and only boyfriend,” and the two married in 1978. They have one son and one daughter together.

Number Eleven: There Is a Musical About Her. In November of 2015, a jukebox musical called On Your Feet! premiered that centers around Estefan’s life with her husband, Emilio. The cast of the musical includes Ana Villafane, who plays Gloria, and Josh Segarra, who plays Emilio.

Number Ten: She Was in Marley & MeYou might remember Marley & Me as an extremely sad film about a dog, but did you know that Estefan and her husband both had cameos in the film? The film was released in 2008.

Number Nine: She Has Written Two Children’s Books. Is there anything this woman can’t do?! Estefan wrote The Magically Mysterious Adventures of Noelle the Bulldog, which was released in 2005, and she also wrote Noelle’s Treasure Tale, which was released in 2006. Her second book made it to number three on the New York Times Bestseller list for children’s books.
