Google Photos is more than an image hosting service, which many people perceive it to be. It is quite versatile in the way that it bridges the gap between simple image hosting, cloud storage and image sharing services. That will probably give the likes of Flickr, iCloud, OneDrive and Dropbox, a run for their money. Here are seven things you probably did not know that Google Photos can do.
Number Seven: Search For Places, People and Objects
GP will arrange the pictures you upload by date and location, automatically. This will make it easier for you to search just about any photo you like. Simply click on the search icon on the bottom right and type whatever you need to find.
Number Six: Pretty Neat Grouping on Google Photos
Google Photos will create models of the faces present in your photos so that the similar ones can be grouped together. This will make it easier for you to search for a certain ‘Fran’ or ‘Mom’. These groups and their labels are of course, private to one’s account.
Number Five: Upload and Delete!
GP will automatically delete videos and photos from your phone once you have uploaded them to the cloud. That means no more redundant copies of your photos.
Number Four: You Can Undelete Too!
If you get a little too excited using the service, and accidentally delete the wrong photos, there is a way to retrieve them. GP will keep them in the trash for at least 60 days. Simply go to the trash folder, touch and hold the photo you want back, and hit restore arrow on the top right-hand corner.
Number Three: Show The Photos on a TV
Using a Chromecast, you can display your photos and videos on a big screen. Once you install the Chromecast app, ensure that your devices are on the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast. Touch the ‘cast icon’ and select your respective Chromecast. Open a photo or video on your device, and click ‘cast icon’ to display on your TV.
Number Two: Download All Photos At Once
The GP desktop uploader is a one-way client unlike Dropbox. That means you cannot directly download all your photos from it. You can do so with Google Takeout though. Just put all media in ZIP file and download at once.
Number One: Easy sharing
You can share an album, image, story or movie with just about anyone through GP. It can be done through a simple link even if they don’t use the GP app.
