Governors Ball Music Festival in New York

In spite of spotty weather in New York this weekend, crowds of young people decked themselves out in an enthusiastic jumble of flower crowns, rain boots, and coconut cocktail accessories to commemorate this rising social event of the weekend: the Governors Ball. Launched in 2011, this music festival has quickly risen to become a mainstay in New York’s summer party season, attracting several major acts and hoards of fashion-conscious creatures, and this year did not disappoint. Randall’s Island Park filled to bursting with celebrities and beautiful, Miller Lite-consuming revelers trying to brush elbows with celebrities. A jumbo can of Miller Lite cost $13. Headlining performances included Florence and the Machine, St. Vincent, Bjork, Flume, The Black Keys, and Ratatat, all of whom brought their A games to their corporate-sponsored stages. Notable sponsors included Honda, PayPal and Bacardi. There were definitely some spectacular musical moments over the course of the three-day festival, with a very solid production value overall. While at the same time, crowds of twenty year-olds in booty shorts vied for attention from style photographers circulating throughout the festival grounds. Overall, the fashion was very reminiscent of Coachella.

Chromeo killed it on the main stage on Friday.

The crowd couldn’t get enough.

Odesza came all the way from Seattle to rock out.

There were some babes in attendance.

MØ pulled out some great electro-pop dance moves.

Florence and the Machine was glorious.

Death from Above 1979 gave us an autograph.

The Gotham tent was lit up with enough lasers to tattoo your retinas forever.
