Number Eight: Grimes Was Inspired by Mariah Carey
You wouldn’t be able to tell by listening to her, but it’s true, Grimes was inspired by Mariah Carey. In fact, Mariah was the one that motivated Grimes to begin making music in the first place.
Number Seven: She Had an Art Exhibition for Her Paintings
Not only does she sing and create music, but she also paints and draws. She designed her own album covers and had some of her work featured in an exhibition in New York.
Number Six: She Grew Up in a Very Strict Household
Her parents were extremely controlling, even monitoring her eating and exercise habits. For this reason, she was extra inspired to do her own thing and be her own unique person. It seems like it worked!
Number Five: Some of Her Songs are Inspired by the Dune Books
The work of the science fiction author Frank Herbert played a huge role in the Canadian artist’s music. Her debut album, Geidi Primes, contained a number of references to the Dune series created by the author.
Number Four: She Would Like to be a Hyena or Beluga Whale
Grimes was asked which animal she would like to be, and these were the answers she gave. It’s unclear whether she wants to be one or the other, or some type of hybrid. though.
Number Three: She Doesn’t Wear Buttons or Zippers
This is for comfort purposes. She hates feeling confined, and apparently zippers and buttons make her feel constricted. For this reason, she chooses elastic.
Number Two: She Has Meaningful Tattoos
These include an eight (because it’s her lucky number), symbols on her fingers from the film, The Fifth Element. And an alien because she believes they exist for real.
Number One: She’s a Big Fan of Korean Pop
K-Pop is known for being outrageous and featuring girl or boy bands. Though her music has quite a different feel, she draws a lot of inspiration from this genre. We hope you enjoyed part two of this article!
