Grimes to Release New Project in the Fall

Grimes has taken to social media to announce she will release her fourth album this fall. The singer didn’t reveal any other details regarding the new project, besides the fact that it will drop some time in October. Grimes’ last album was scheduled to be released in March, but the singer decided not to drop the project. “The album was scrapped cuz [sic] it was depressing and I didn’t want to tour it. I may release it one day,” she stated. Grimes added,”I throw out music all the time, I have almost 1000 gigs of unreleased music on my hard drive. I just want the next album to be as good as possible.”

This month, Grimes will join Lana Del Rey on her Endless Summer Tour. Grimes, who was named as the opening act for the second leg of the tour, will travel with Del Rey to Noblesville (Indiana) on May 28th. They will also perform in Tinley Park (Illinois) on May 30th; Clarkston (Michigan) on May 31st; Toronto (Ontario) on June 3rd; Montreal (Quebec) on June 4th; Mansfield (Massachusetts) on June 9th; Bristow (Virginia) on June 11th; Charlotte (North Carolina) on June 13th; and Atlanta (Georgia) on June 14th. The final date on the Endless Summer Tour will be in West Palm Beach (Florida) on June 16th.

Grimes has released three studio albums including Geidi Primes (2010), Halfaxa (2010), and Visions (2012). Visions featured the singles “Genesis” and “Oblivion,” and it reached the Billboard 200 Albums chart at Number 98. It also peaked at Number 8 on Dance/Electronic Albums, Number 13 on Independent Albums, and Number 17 on the US Alternative Albums chart. Visions also charted in Australia, Belgium, Ireland, and the UK.

Grimes’ latest single “Go” featuring Blood Diamonds, hasn’t faired well on the charts and it has received negative feedback from music critics. “Go was never on the album anyway, it is a collaboration with a close friend that was released for fans as a thank you for waiting, since my album was being delayed,” Grimes explained. She continued,”People’s opinions do not factor into my process. I’m really not that sad or insecure of a person.” Despite its lukewarm response from critics, the music video for the single “Go” is nominated for three awards at this year’s MuchMusic Video Awards. The video is nominated for Video of the Year, Best Post-Production, and Best Director (director Grimes).
