Check out eight more fascinating facts about the iconic Italian fashion brand that you definitely (probably) did not know below. You might be surprised by what you find out!
Number Eight: It’s the Biggest-Selling Italian Brand. Gucci is the biggest-selling brand in Italy – it’s true! As of 2014, the brand was worth approximately $12.4 billion, and their sales in the United States were $4.7 billion as of 2013.
Number Seven: Their First Shares Sold for $22. Gucci went public in 1995, and their very first shares offered on AMEX and the NYSE sold for just $22! We wish we had been smart enough to buy some of those shares back then.
Number Six: They Sued Guess. Gucci sued Guess in 2012 for $4.7 million as part of a trademark lawsuit in 2012. They ended up winning.
Number Five: They Have Their Own Museum. You can visit the brand’s museum in the Palazzo della mercanzia in Italy. The museum is 1,715 square meters and details the brand’s history and other interesting facts.
Number Four: They Have a Partnership With UNICEF. Gucci has had a partnership with UNICEF since 2005. The brand’s stores all over the world donate a percentage of sales to UNICEF’s United Nations Children’s Fund. They also have a campaign with UNICEF every year to support clean water, healthcare, and education.
Number Three: They Also Work With Chime for Change. The Chime for Change campaign is devoted to supporting female empowerment. Since 2013, when the initiative launched, Gucci has funded 210 projects for Chime for Change.
Number Two: They Had the World’s Most Expensive Jeans in 1998. In 1998, Guinness World Records named Gucci’s “Genius Jeans” as the most expensive jeans in the world. At the time, the jeans cost $3,134.
