Harrison Ford: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 1)

You may know him as Indiana Jones or Han Solo, but Harrison Ford is undoubtedly one of the best actors of his generation. Despite his prolific career, there are some things about this handsome actor that many people just don’t know. Here, we present our list of 15 things you probably didn’t know about Harrison Ford. Check out part one below, and stay tuned for part two, coming soon!

Number Fifteen: Alec Guinness Was Unable to Remember His Name. Ford’s co-star was apparently unable to remember Ford’s name. He wrote to a friend that Ford was “…a rangy, languid young man who is probably intelligent and amusing,” but for whatever reason, he just couldn’t remember his name.

Number Fourteen: He Had His Ear Pierced at Claire’s Accessories. Ford was having lunch with friend Jimmy Buffett and, upon seeing Buffett’s stud in his ear, decided he wanted to get his own. He and his then-wife then decided to go to a mall and get his ear pierced. It just so happened that the nearest place was a Claire’s Accessories.

Number Thirteen: He Was Paid $10,000 for Star WarsThough $10,000 might sound like chump change in the acting world, it was better than the $500 a week he received to act in 1973’s American Graffiti. In contrast, Ford was paid 43.3 million pounds to star in Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull.

Number Twelve: He Loves Narrowboats. In 2006, Ford, his then-wife Calista Flockhart and their son pulled up to Chirk Marina in – you guess it – a narrowboat. The family traveled together on the boat and even visited the Llangollen International Eisteddfod.

Number Eleven: He Is a Conservationist. Ford is so much a conservationist that he even has creatures named after him. In 1993, Ford was honored by an archaeologist who named a species of spider after him. The species was named Calponia harrisonfordi.

Number Ten: He Has Saved Lives. In 2000, Ford flew his helicopter to rescue Sarah George, who was a hiker who got stranded in some Idaho mountains. He was able to land his helicopter and rescue the woman himself.

Number Nine: He Has a Nice Collection of Planes. Ford has been vocal about his passion for flying, and he has said, “I’m so passionate about flying, I often fly up the coast for a cheeseburger.” He has 11 planes at his California home.
