Number Fifteen: The Founder Had No Formal Education
Soichiro Honda started as a garage mechanic in Tokyo. He began this profession at the young age of 15 years old and continued with it for six more years.
Number Fourteen: Honda Started with Motorized Bicycles
Before advancing to automobile building, Soichiro and a team of twelve others produced engines to attach to bikes. This was post World War II. By 1964, the Honda Company would become the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles.
Number Thirteen: They Produce Vehicles in the USA
Although it started as a Japanese company, they have many manufacturing plants here in America. Despite what you might have thought, when you buy Honda, you may be buying American.
Number Twelve: The Accord Was the First Foreign Car Made in the US
They began producing the Accord in 1982 at a plant in Ohio. The Accord ended up making records when it became the first foreign car model to become a best seller in America.
Number Eleven: They Don’t Only Make Cars
Apart from cars and motorcycles, Honda partakes in a variety of other manufacturing, including water vehicles, ATVs, mountain bikes, and even solar cells. They have also made robots.
Number Ten: They Carefully and Thoughtfully Select Titles for Models
The name Accord was chosen because the word represents the harmony between humans and their vehicles. The name Civic is intended to invoke images of society, crowded streets, and the city.
Number Nine: Soichiro Aided Toyota During WWII
He toured their factories in Japan to get a better understanding of their manufacturing process.
