Number Fifteen: How I Met Your Mother – The Real Act
Within the show (and a few other shows, as well), Barney is known to have quite the knack for magic. This isn’t a coincidence; actor Neil Patrick Harris is a real-life magician with a strong passion for the art. In fact, his is the president of a club in Los Angeles called The Magic Castle Club.
Number Fourteen: The Hometown
Ted Mosby, the main character of the show, has a backstory of growing up in Shaker Heights in Cleveland, Ohio. Not surprisingly, this is because actor Josh Radnor and creator Carter Bays both grew up there.
Number Thirteen: The Barkeep
In the iconic bar, MacLaren’s, where the crew spends most of their time, the name of the barkeep is Carl. This bar was named after Carter’s assistant, Carl MacLaren, and they decided to throw in the whole name.
Number Twelve: The Bar Scene
On that same note, MacLaren’s is actually based on a real-life bar! It is called McGee’s, and has even premiered special cocktails in honor of the show including “The Naked Man”, “The Pineapple Incident”, and “Robin Sparkles”.
Number Eleven: The Pregnancies
In the span of filming, the producers had to work with both of the female stars’ pregnancies. They covered up the belly bulges of Cobie and Alyson using the latest tricks of the industry- baggy shirts. In season four, Lily is actually absent from a few episodes of the show while she gave birth.
Number Ten: The Husband
Along the lines of Alyson being pregnant, the team also included the man who was responsible for this action. The actor who plays Sandy Rivers, Robin’s not-so love interest on the show, is actually her real-life husband.
Number Nine: Have You Met the Solids?
If you have ever wondered who created the catchy theme song for the show, it was recorded by the creators themselves! The two creators, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, actually play in a band together and call themselves The Solids.
