With that in mind, here we present our list of 15 things you probably didn’t know about Hozier. Check out part one below, and stay tuned for part two, coming soon!

Number Fifteen: He Went to College in Ireland. Hozier was accepted to and attended Trinity College music school, which is an extremely prestigious school located in Dublin, Ireland. However, he ended up dropping out before he even finished his first year, ironically, to focus on songwriting.

Number Fourteen: Music Is in His Blood. Hozier’s dad was also a musician – specifically, a blues musician. Hozier is renowned for the way he is able to blend different styles of music, and he was likely influenced by his father.

Number Thirteen: His Budget for “Take Me to Church” Was Insanely Low. Though Hozier’s video for “Take Me to Church” is incredibly moving, he was able to make the video on a very small budget. The video is shot in black and white and centers around the horrible way gay people are treated in Russia.

Number Twelve: He Went Through a Bidding War. Thanks to the success of “Take Me to Church,” several labels began a bidding war for Hozier. The winning label ended up being Columbia Records.

Number Eleven: He Is a Total Swiftie. Taylor Swift admitted that she attended one of Hozier’s earliest shows, and she was a fan from the very start. The two ended up meeting, and he only had positive things to say about her. He said, “She’s incredibly kind and funny.”

Number Ten: He Tweeted His Phone Number. Though we doubt Hozier would tweet out his number today, he tweeted his real phone number on the release date of his first album. He spoke to several extremely lucky fans and, unsurprisingly, had to get a new phone after the one he had kept getting incoming text messages.

Number Nine: His Birthday Is on a Holiday. Hozier’s birthday is easy to remember because it’s on St. Patrick’s Day! In case you forgot, St. Patrick’s Day is on March 17.
