Hozier: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 2)

We already brought you part one of our list of 15 things you probably did not know about Hozier, and now we’re back with part two! Check out eight more fascinating facts about the singer and musician that you definitely (probably) did not know below. You might be surprised by what you find out!

Number Eight: He Hates Hair Cuts. It’s no secret that Hozier has some handsomely long locks, but he has no plans to cut it anytime soon. He said, “I just hate getting my hair cut. Something in the water.” Well, we’re not complaining.

Number Seven: He Played the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Though Hozier doesn’t quite look like a “typical” crowd member at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, he performed there, along with Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, and Ariana Grande. He said that, though it was outside of his comfort zone, it was fun.

Number Six: He Does Not Care About Being Famous. Hozier has admitted that he is quite awkward, and he calls himself a “gangly introvert.” For that reason, he is perfectly content to make music that people enjoy without personally interacting with too many people.

Number Five: He Used to Have Crippling Stage Fright. When Hozier was young, he performed in front of several hundred people at a community center. His voice cracked during his performance, and rather than laugh and recover, he froze, covered his face with his hands, and eventually he had to be taken off stage by someone else.

Number Four: Hozier Was Not His First Foray Into Music. When he was a teenager, Hozier was part of a group called the Blue Zoots. They focused on covering blues songs, including covering artists like Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and the Blues Brothers.

Number Three: He Was Influenced by Tom Waits. When Hozier first heard Waits, he was instantly fascinated. He did not have access to super advanced technology when he discovered Waits, though, so he had to use a dial-up internet connection to listen to his songs 30 seconds at a time.

Number Two: He Is a Slow Writer. The song for which he is most well-known – “Take Me to Church” – took Hozier almost a full year to write. He has admitted that a lot of his lyrics sit around before coming together into full songs.

Number One: He Has an Ultra-Famous Fan Base. Though Hozier has said that he is comfortable without much fame, some really famous people are fans of his. Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, and Adele have all either covered his music or attended one of his shows. And hey – we can’t blame them!
