Jack White: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 1)

You might know Jack White as the frontman of The White Stripes, but how much do you really know about him? The 40-year-old has been around the block a few times, but he’s still going strong. However, despite the fact that White has spent a considerable amount of time in the spotlight and under the scrutiny of the public eye, there are still some things that many people don’t know. With that in mind, here we present our list of 15 things you probably didn’t know about Jack White. Check out part one below, and stay tuned for part two, coming soon!

Number Fifteen: His First Job Was as an Upholsterer. When he was a teenager, White worked as an upholsterer, and he even had his own shop! The shop was called Third Man Upholstery, and the company’s slogan was “Your furniture’s not dead.” White used to insert notes into the furniture for future upholsterers to find, and his band at the time was called The Upholsterers.

Number Fourteen: He Was Almost a Priest. White was so close to becoming a priest that he had even been accepted to and enrolled in a seminary school. At the last second, he decided to opt for public school, and the rest is history.

Number Thirteen: He Learned How to Weld From Bob Dylan. Rather than get some music tips from Bob Dylan, White learned how to weld from him. The two were reportedly sitting on White’s front porch when Dylan mentioned that he could help him fix the gate. Dylan subsequently taught White how to weld.

Number Twelve: His Marriage Was Shamanistic. White married Karen Elson in a ceremony that can be described as shamanistic. They were married on the Amazon river. The two later got divorced. Speaking of which…

Number Eleven: He Threw a Party When He Got Divorced. When White and wife Karen Elson got divorced, they threw a party! The invitation described a party that was meant to celebrate “the making and breaking of the sacred union of marriage with our best friends and animals.” OK then.

Number Ten: He Edits Tapes With Razor Blades. When it comes to music, White is super old school. He only records in analog, and he edits his own tapes with a razor blade.

Number Nine: He Has Nine Siblings. And he’s the youngest! White grew up in a Catholic family where he was the youngest of 10 kids. That could explain some things.
