Hip-hop duo, Run the Jewels, just took another step forward in their music career. This step was obviously a huge one. Rocker Jack White invited Run The Jewels to open for his show at Madison Square Garden on January 30th. The New York show is one of Jack White’s highest-profile dates. Run The Jewels’ member, El-P, confirmed the Madison Square Garden show on social media, “When you get asked to open for Jack White at MSG you say yes. Its (sic) in the bible.” No other acts have been announced to join Jack White for the show as of yet.
Run The Jewels and Jack White are also scheduled to perform at the Coachella Festival in April. The rap duo, consisting of Killer Mike and El-P, will also head to Norway, Iceland, Finland, and England for a few festival performances. In 2013, the duo released the album Run The Jewels as a free digital download. “Get It” and “36 Chain” were the singles released from the album. The two gained mainstream success after they released the album Run the Jewels 2 in 2014. The album was ranked Number 14 on NME’s Top 50 Albums of 2014 list.
Back in November of last year, the duo performed on the Late Show With David Letterman. The duo spoke about their Letterman experience during an interview, “Letterman is the most fun of the late night shows that I’ve done. Maybe it’s partially because I am a New Yorker and I grew up watching Letterman. That’s where I feel I have given the best performances,” El-P stated. Killer Mike shared the same sentiment for the Letterman show, “I’ve done Letterman twice, and Letterman is probably my favorite experience too. Just because my grandpa used to let me stay up late and watch Letterman with him. I imagine my grandfather somewhere out in the universe, in the ancestral plane, watching and laughing, like: ‘that little fu**** did it. That’s my boy down there, pass me my fu***** whiskey.” The rap duo is reportedly working on the Run the Jewels 3 album. The album is expected to be released later this year.
