Jackie Chan: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 1)

Jackie Chan is one of the most recognizable martial artists in the world. Throw on almost any kung-fu movie in the past four decades, and you’re liable to see Chan credited somewhere. Though Chan has spent much of his life in the public eye, there are still some things that many people don’t know about him. With that in mind, here we present our list of 15 things you probably didn’t know about Jackie Chan. Check out part one below, and stay tuned for part two, coming soon!

Number Fifteen: He Can Sing Opera. Chan is a trained opera singer – he trained at an opera academy when he was a child, and he learned how to sing opera while he was learning kung fu. In fact, Chan has released 11 studio albums!

Number Fourteen: He Has Done an Adult Film. Though you probably associate Chan with kung fu, he was actually in an adult film in 1975. The film was called All in the Family and starred fellow martial artist Sammo Hung as well.

Number Thirteen: He Waited Three Decades Before Doing Another Sex Scene. Though Chan has said that his adult scene in the 1975 film was not that big of a deal, he did not do another sex scene for 34 more years.

Number Twelve: He Will Never Play a Villain. Chan has refused to play a villain in any film. You might get to see him naked, but you’ll never see him being both naked and evil.

Number Eleven: He Was a Stuntman in a Bruce Lee Film. Chan was a stuntman in Lee’s Fists of Fury and Enter the Dragon.

Number Ten: He Was Not Always Super Skilled. In fact, Chan’s sifu, or master, has said that Chan was not necessarily the best, but he was the “naughtiest.” The 1988 film Painted Faces details the semi-biographical story of Chan, his peers, and their sifu.

Number Nine: He Was “Become the Dragon.” Before he made a huge name for himself, Chan’s stage name was “Become the Dragon.” The name was given to him by a producer who associated Chan with Bruce Lee. However, it was quickly discovered that Chan and Lee were two very different people.
