We already brought you part one of the series on James Taylor. Since there is still so much more to tell, here is part two!
Number Eight: He’s Worked On Broadway
No he did not perform on Broadway, but he did write music for it. He was nominated for a Tony Award for his work on the show Working in 1978.
Number Seven: He Did Not Plan On Being A Musician
With his amazing voice, it is hard to see James Taylor doing anything else. Apparently he did though, he planned on being a chemist because he thought his parents expected him to study something within the sciences.
Number Six: He Has Only Hit The Billboard Top 200 Once
Taylor has quite a few hits underneath his belt, but even with all their popularity they have not been enough to put him on the Billboard charts, until 2015 that is. Taylor made the countdown for the first time last year for Before This World
Number Five: His Biggest Regret Is Disney Related
If a musician is ever asked to sing a song for a Disney movie, it is a hard deal to turn down. Taylor received such an offer for the title song for the film Toy Story (1995), but was unable to do so and so the song went to Lyle Lovett much to Taylor’s regret.
Number Four: He’s A Member Of The SNL 5 Timers Club
On Saturday Night Live, there is a secret club for those who have hosted or performed on the show five times. Taylor is a member of this exclusive club after performing on the show six times.
Number Three: James Taylor Is Not A Southern Boy
One of Taylor’s biggest hits is Carolina In My Mind, giving off the impression that Taylor is a homegrown North Carolinian. He was actually born in Boston and moved to Chapel Hill, N.C. after his father became dean of the University of North Carolina At Chapel Hill’s medical school.
Number Two: Before He Made It Big, He Was In His Brother’s Band
Since all the Taylor kids were musically gifted, at least one of them had to have a band. Taylor’s older brother Alex was the instigator, and put together The Fabulous Corsairs while they were still in Chapel Hill, N.C.. They mainly played fraternity parties and high school dances, so the money was not that great.
Number One: He Inspired A Beatles’ Song
Since the members of The Beatles and James Taylor worked so closely, they were bound to exchange ideas for songs. One example of this is that after James Taylor recorded his single Something In the Way She Moves, Beatles’ member George Harrison was inspired to write his song titled Something.
