Jane Fonda: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 2)

Welcome back to our list of 15 things you didn’t know about Jane Fonda. You can find part one here. She is an actress, writer and activist who comes from a family full of actors, which includes her father Henry Fonda and brother Peter Fonda. Jane is also a cancer survivor, she underwent a lumpectomy in November of 2010.

Number Five: She Purchased A Movie To Act With Her Father

Jane had a hard time connecting with her father. They were estranged for many years. She decided to purchase a script called On Golden Pond, so she and her father can act in it together. The film also features Katharine Hepburn. Henry won an Academy Award for Best Actor in this film which Jane accepted on his behalf due to him being ill. He died five months later.

Number Four: United Nations Made Fonda a Goodwill Ambassador

Along with being Goodwill Ambassador, Jane is no stranger to receiving awards. Since then she has received the Women in Film Crystal Award, the Women’s eNews 21 Leaders for the 21st Century award,  AFI Life Achievement Award, she also received the New York Women’s Agenda Lifetime Achievement Award. Jane has also been inducted into the California Hall of Fame.

Number Three: She Has a Fitness Empire

Most of us know Jane for being a fitness guru. Since 1982, she has launched over 22 workout videos. Her empire is still strong 30 years later, selling over 17 million copies. She also authored Jane Fonda’s Workout Book which was on the number one sellers list for over 6 months.

Number Two: She Retired From Acting In 1991

In 1991, she married billionaire Ted Turner. She retired from acting and focused on her philanthropic efforts and family. They later divorced in 2001.

Number One: Jane Fonda Makes a Comeback

After taking a 15-year break from acting and 45-year gap from broadway, she returns on screen. Her first film was Monster in Law, opposite of Jennifer Lopez. She was also in the play 33 Variations which earned her a Tony Nomination. Jane returned to her recurring role in The News Room on HBO as well which earned her another two Emmy Award nominations.
