Jenna Dewan-Tatum takes on the role of Lucy Lane in the upcoming Supergirl series. The 34 year old mother will have a recurring role as the younger sister of Lois Lane. Lucy will make her first appearance in episode three and is described as witty, bold, and successful. Similar to the comics, she has a romantic background with James Olsen, played by Mehcad Brooks, who will take an interest in Kara/Supergirl, played by Melissa Benoist. Lucy steps onto the scene with a mission to correct a wrong. There is no telling what that misdeed is but it sounds like she might be out to reignite the flames of her old relationship.

I can remember Jenna Dewan-Tatum making us believe we could dance in 2006, with her role as Nora Clark in Step Up, playing opposite her husband, Magic Mike XXL star Channing Tatum. And I was in love with her character, Freya Beauchamp, in the Lifetime television show Witches of East End. Her emotionally driven character showed us what it meant to live with your heart on your sleeve. My heart still hurts from the series cancellation. Dewan-Tatum is no stranger to the sci-fi/supernatural genre and I’m sure she will steal every scene she is in.

Supergirl follows Kara, 24, as she discovers her superhuman abilities and becomes the hero we all know her to be. Kara and her superhero persona is a huge source of empowerment for young girls and women a like. Personally, I am over seeing Batman, Superman, and other male superheros on the small screen. The arrival of Supergirl, and hopefully its success, will open up the door for more television shows based on female superheros. Benoist, 26, says the show’s feminism is “what I love about it.” Viewers may not initially see it at first but everyone will remember the “strength and bravery, and hope that she brings.”

Supergirl will also star Chris Browning as Reactron, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, and Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott. Supergirl premieres on Monday, October 26, at 8:30 ET, on CBS.
