Julius Caesar: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 1)

You probably learned about Julius Caesar in grade school, but how much do you really know about him? Despite the fact that Caesar is covered in just about every child’s education and is the subject of many college courses, there are still some things that many people don’t know. With that in mind, here we present our list of 15 things you probably didn’t know about Julius Caesar. Check out part one below, and stay tuned for part two, coming soon!

Number Fifteen: He Was Just Too Powerful. The senators who conspired to kill Caesar all held the same belief that power should be shared and not given to one specific person. The tensions caused by this are in part responsible for Caesar’s death.

Number Fourteen: You Might Be Surprised by His Last Words. Though many people believe Caesar’s last words were “Et tu, Brute?” in fact, his last words may have been something else completely. There is no proof that Caesar ever said that exact phrase, and several other theories suggest that his last words were “You too, child?”. Some people believe he said nothing.

Number Thirteen: He Probably Died a Slow Death. Caesar was stabbed many times amongst a group of 60 or so senators. Despite all the stab wounds, just one stab wound to his chest was said to kill him, meaning he probably died a very slow and painful death.

Number Twelve: If He Wasn’t Stabbed, It Would Have Been Something Else. Instead of stabbing Caesar, other ideas to kill him included unexpectedly attacking him on a walk, pushing him over a bridge, and assassinating him during an election.

Number Eleven: His Wife Warned him. Caesar’s wife warned him not to go near the Senate just days before he was killed. However, Caesar clearly didn’t listen.

Number Ten: Caesar Isn’t the Only One Who Got Hurt. In fact, in the process of killing Caesar, some of the senators were injured as well. Brutus reportedly came away from the incident with stab wounds in both his hand and legs.

Number Nine: His Crotch Was Stabbed. It’s true! Brutus stabbed Caesar in the groin in the attacks.
