Kendrick Lamar: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 1)

Kendrick Lamar has quickly become one of the most successful rappers and musicians over the past couple of years. The 28-year-old has spent a considerable amount of time in the spotlight and public eye; however, there are still some things that many people do not know about him. With that in mind, here we present our list of 15 things you probably didn’t know about Kendrick Lamar. Number Fifteen: He Has Been Around the Block a Few Times. Lamar released his first album in 2012, but before that he had created a few mixtapes as well. He was also nominated for seven Grammy Awards in 2013; however, he did not win any.

Number Fourteen: He Is Actually From Compton. A lot of rappers talk about Compton, but Lamar is actually from there. He was born in Chicago in 1987, and shortly after his birth his parents moved their family to Compton. He references his hometown in his single “Compton.”

Number Thirteen: He Was Inspired by a Music Video. When Lamar was just eight years old, he somehow found his way to the set of the iconic video for “California Love” by Tupac Shakur and Dr. Dre. He says that it truly inspired him to pursue a career in the industry.

Number Twelve: He Is Well-Respected in the Community. Lamar has been compared to both Tupac Shakur and Kanye West, and that’s not all. In 2011, Snoop Dogg, Game, Warren G, and Kurupt symbolically gave Lamar the torch of West Coast hip-hop.

Number Eleven: He Likes Indie Music. Lamar has stated that he appreciates indie bands such as Sonnymoon and the Quadrants. He says, “My pops and my mom started playing Marvin Gaye and the Isley Brothers and all these people, but at the same time, they always had Snoop on right behind it in the same mix.”

Number Ten: He Loves Cereal. Lamar told Complex magazine that his favorite cereal is Fruity Pebbles, specifically because he likes the crunch.

Number Nine: He Does Not Like Social Media. Lamar says that he avoids social media because he does not like to get caught up in all of the superficiality, and he thinks that social media is distracting.
