Kendrick Lamar stated the inside of the To Pimp A Butterfly album booklet contains a hidden message that reveals the album’s full title. “There’s actually a sketch of Braille that’s added to the title hidden the booklet that I don’t think nobody has caught yet,” Lamar told Mass Appeal. He continued,”You can actually feel the bump lines. But if you can see it, which is the irony of it, you can break down the actual full title of the album.” After the rapper revealed the news about the hidden title, Complex magazine contacted a teacher for the visually impaired. The teacher was able to translate Lamar’s title to A Kendrick By Letter Blank Lamar, which is read as A Blank Letter by Kendrick Lamar. Therefore, the full album title of the project is To Pimp A Butterfly: A Blank Letter by Kendrick Lamar.
Besides his album title reveal, the rapper just partnered with a health food company named Sweetgreen. Sweetgreen is an East Coast salad chain, which has been selling shirts that read “Beets Don’t Kale My Vibe” since 2013. The company’s shirts are based on Lamar’s single “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe,” which was featured on his Good Kid, M.A.A.D City project. The success of the shirts prompted Sweetgreen to make an actual salad that contains shredded kale, roasted beets, roasted chicken, goat cheese, and organic wild rice. The salad will honor Lamar’s headlining performance at Sweetgreen’s Sweetlife Festival in May. The salad will be available at Sweetgreen locations through the month of May.
To Pimp A Butterfly was released this year, and it debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. The project also reached the top of the charts in the UK, New Zealand, Canada, and Australia. To date, To Pimp A Butterfly has been certified Gold in the US. Three singles have been released from the album, which include “i,” “The Blacker the Berry,” and “King Kunta.” “King Kunta” has reached Number 11 on the Hot Rap Songs chart, Number 20 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and Number 58 on the Billboard Hot 100. The single has also impacted the charts in Ireland, the UK, France, Belgium, and Australia.
