Kid Cudi: 6 Interesting Facts You Didn’t Know

Kid Cudi has rounded up an impressive fan base for his unique style of music, but how much do you really know about your favorite rap star? Cudi had a rocky start in the beginning, but it all seemed to work out in the end. If you want the full story on the talented artist, we have got everything you need to know right here.

Number Six: When Kanye Met Kid Cudi

For those of you who are on the up-and-up with the modern rap stars of today, you have probably heard of the legendary story of Kid Cudi’s start. When Kanye walked into a BAPE store one day, the then-counter clerk of the store handed him an impressive demo CD. However, what you may not know about the encounter are the more comical details of the story. Turns out, he caused a lot of commotion after forgetting to remove the security sensor from the jacket that Kanye purchased. He was so intent on making a good impression on the star that he chased him down to make amends.

Number Five: Issues in High School

Many are familiar with Cudi’s educational past after he claimed that he quit high school after realizing it “wasn’t for him.” However, that isn’t exactly the whole story. In fact, he was actually expelled from his high school after a threat to punch his principal. Sooner or later, he did get his GED.

Number Four: The Original Plans

Like every normal teenager out there, Cudi had some different plans for his future before he hit the big time. Before, uh, “leaving” his high school, he planned to pursue a degree in film at the University of Toledo. However, he ended up dropping out of that institution as well, claiming he had big dreams, but Ohio wasn’t the place to do it.

Number Three: The Backup Plans

Once again needing a plan for his future, Kid Cudi began avidly training himself for the pursuit of a career in the Navy. However, this didn’t exactly work out either. He was rejected by recruiters in consideration of his criminal record stating that he was arrested for assault at the age of 16. Luckily, his entry-level job at BAPE seemed to work out for his future.

Number Two: A Rough Start

In his younger years, Kid Cudi saw no promises for a career in the music industry. In fact, he was pretty convinced that he was musically challenged. He had always loved listening to music, but simply couldn’t perform it himself. He tried tirelessly to learn the trumpet, clarinet, and even the violin as a kid but failed every time. Luckily for him, he is a technology whiz when it comes to auto-tune.

Number One: Film Inspiration

Cudi has always embraced a passion for films, as you probably assumed considering that he tried to major in film in college. When coming up with ideas for his songs, he would often play movies in the background as inspiration. He attributes a lot of his success to movies like Walk Hard, E.T., and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. He also got his inspiration for the popular hit Man on the Moon from watching Jim Carey’s portrayal of Andy Kaufman in a biopic film. The film featured a 1992 song of the same title by R.E.M., and Cudi was so inspired he recreated it. We hope you enjoyed our list of the six interesting facts you didn’t know about Kid Cudi!
